UNDERSTAND YOUR WHY: CREATE A MINDSET/MISSION STATEMENT FOR YOUR CAREER [T-H-I-N-K]
The WHY is the purpose, cause or belief that drives every one of us.” ~Simon Sinek
What is your WHY?
Simply put, it’s your purpose, what you stand for and live for, your core values. In terms of your art, it’s why you do it and the reason you have chosen to craft a business around it. It can be evolving over time and may not even be something you can articulate when you first get started - you just know you need to create.
Why know your why? What are the benefits of knowing your why?
It gives you clarity for your path forward. If you know your purpose it becomes much easier to shape your life and business to align with it.
It gives you passion for your goals and enhances your commitment to them. This means you’re not subject to distraction from extraneous things.
It’s easier to weather adversity because you know your purpose and can “keep your eyes on the prize.”
Knowing your purpose is a reference point for all of your actions/choices around your work and business.
In terms of your art, knowing why you create gives the work heart, soul and authenticity which will connect you to your audience.
Knowing your ‘Why’ is a way of showing the reason that you are doing what you’re doing. It can be:
I want to work from home, so I can be there for my children’s precious moments of growing up
I want to be financially secure
I want to earn money so my spouse can have other job options
I want to quit my job and work for myself
I want to live authentically and feel the most alive!
There are many reasons WHY you do what you do. Make it your own and make it strong enough to drive you to accomplish your dream.
Questions to ask yourself:
What am I passionate about?
What accomplishments or moments in the past made me feel the most fulfilled?
What direction am I currently going? What direction do I want to go?
